Movies movies movies!

So, I have seen Star Trek twice. And it's been out for a mere four days. And I'd see it again. Oh dear...

I went to the Thursday premier at 10pm with Drake, then on Saturday with my parents and uncle (Dad's big bro). It was so funny to ride in the car with them on the way back. They are pretty major Trekies, so we discussed the movie, the subtle jokes in the movie for the Trekies, the way it related to the storylines from the show, anything and everything else Star Trek related. It was in Oxford. We live in Talladega. Darn near a full hour of hardcore Star Trek discussion and rebuttle. Truly amazing. And I was there to tie in my generation's view on the matter. Fun stuff, indeed. I now feel in the know. Geekdom.

Also, Wolverine was fun stuff. It was not dragged out to a three hour movie; they kept it normal length. Thank you. It was well done though. And the ladies got to see Hugh Jackman's tushie. And the guys got to see it, too (take note, men, we likey). Nerddom ensued. Drake's favorite character, Deadpool, was taken somewhat too far (Comic Bookly speaking), but Gambit was pretty awesome. I was in love with him on the cartoon when younger and was pleased that he was brought in. Missed the extreme end (past the credits) cause I went to bathroom, but oh well. I'll see it again soon, I'm sure. Not at the normal theaters, though, prolly. Movies are no longer a cheap outting, so yeah.

I got the one disk version of Twilight used for around $14. So that's good. I debated the two disk, but decided I'm not a tween and need not the extra hours of how they changed a decent book to a less than decent movie rendition. I read that they are getting better people to do the next movie (thank goodness), so it'll look better. Whew!

Also, I got the Music Version dvd of Romeo & Juliet (the one with Leo and Claire). It's a beautifully made movie, gorgeous soundtrack, hilarious interpretation of Shakespeare. Wonderful investment in my movie collection.

Thus, I am theatrically pleased for now...

April Recap...sorry

Oh my goodness...I'm already having to do a recap episode. I told you I'd suck at keeping this updated, Ames!

Anyway...
April has come and gone.

Let's go with April Highlights in the life of me... ...aaaaaand Scene!

Ok, just kidding, here goes:

  • I am now full time with benefits at UAB! That's uber exciting. I need not worry about horrific events beyond the normal general fear of sickness, death or dismemberment. Awesome.....wait...
  • Went to a childhood church acquaintance's wedding. His family have always been the kindest people. It was good to see people from back then. It was interesting seeing their reactions to how I'm so different. Cute cake, cute girl, beautiful family, etc. etc. etc.
  • A few awesome mini-vacations with Ames for R&R, laughs, ANTM, and Black Pearl lettuce wraps.
  • My sister and I sang together for the Maundy Thursday service at Sylacauga FUMC which was good.
  • Got some hangoutage with High School peeps for Twin and my birthday (April 13!).
  • Enjoyed the typical Easter with my family which was nice and filling, as always.
  • Ames made bubble pizza for Drake and me for my birthday dinner. I love her. And bubble pizza. Yum.
  • Comedy Club Stardome with friends and fam for Birthday outing! So much fun. I love the Stardome! Especially when I win free tickets for 12 people on my birthday. :)
  • Drake's birthday present to me was tickets to WICKED! Which was spectacular.
  • Had a girls' nite out with Little to J.Clyde and NanaFunks. Which is always super fun.
  • SOCO 2009 at BSC was awesome. Music and drinking with my sister and underclassmen friends. Yes.
  • I got Drake beta fishes for his b'day. I got him a two sided tank so he has two. He can lift the middle part so they see each other and flare up, but they can't get through the clear wall separator. So pretty! He named them Milton and Bradley.
  • Had a few filmings at work, which is good to cut up the monotony of my days in front of the computer.
  • Went on a few random outings with Drake. One outdoor concert at Aldridge Gardens, a roadtrip to lunch, a few breakfasts at Jack's, dinner at O'Charley's... (Where the prophet was!)
  • Finally saw Shoppaholic at the $1 Theater with Barclee and Drake.
  • Saw my sister perform with the BSC Pep and Jazz bands. Which was weird cause now we've swapped places. It's weird to be in the audience now. I miss band and playing my trumpet.
All in all, a decent month of outings, sufficient social interaction, activities, and happiness to balance out the occasional clouds. :)

Darned Nickolai...

So, I finally got roped into joining Twitter thanks to Nick. There is really no point keeping the account if I can't set up my phone to do it, but they are apparently working on issues they were having with the SMS service. I'll be patient until they figure that out. The less bugs I have to work through, the better. Thus I made my very first Twitter today. And my second Blogger. It's a new technological beginning for Christine. haha

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day! I always get really excited about it. I dressed in my greenery, wore a Celtic knot shamrock tattoo on my wrist, shamrock earrings, green pendent necklace Drake bought me years ago, green eyeshadow... oh yeah. I am nothing, if not festive. With my skin and red hair, I was a picture of Irish miscellany. ...fun word, "miscellany"...

I spent the ENTIRE day in classes. A morning JavaScript class which is pretty much review for me (I had it my last semester of college) so far, and afternoon PhotoShop class. That class is much more fun. We learn to edit pictures and touch things up. I changed a girl into Queen Elizabeth. And she looked rockin'.

Of course, the highlight of my day came about because of those in my life who make everything worth living. Drake took me to lunch at Jackson's in Soho. I had a BLT and we split cookie dough eggrolls. OMG...delish. Then, after work, I set off to visit my Ames at her place where we got to chill, talk, laugh, watch ANTM, and she made St. Patty's dinner for me. Potatoes to be festive and some biscuit pizza thing which was friggin' awesome! She's a fabulous cook (*note to self: get recipe and attempt to make it somewhat edible*). Definitely shouldn't have eaten the banana cream pie and drank chocolate cream drink after, tho. I was so full.

Afterwards, I went to Drake's where we finished off the evening watching The Guild.

Pilot

Other than being an obvious stab at my complexion, "Beyond the pale," was an expression used to describe outrageous behavior which originated in Ireland in the 14th century. The Pale was the area of Ireland under heavy British control. People living in areas outside it were considered wild and outlandish. So, being pale and of Irish decent, I felt the title to be appropriate.

"Change of a season" has to do with lyrics from
Fly By Night by Rush. The song is dear to me, coming to me in a time when I needed something to direct me forward, ahead, and with hope towards the future. Even now, upon hearing this song, I feel revived, hopeful, and strong. Sure, I sound really sappy talking about it, but that's alright. I'm not a sappy person, but I know what this song means to me and that makes it alright to expose this side of my personality. Here's a snippet:
Why try? I know why
The feeling inside me says its time I was gone
Clear head, new life ahead
I want to be king now not just one more pawn

Fly by night, away from here
Change my life again
Fly by night goodbye my dear
My ship isnt coming and I just cant pretend

Moon rise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling inside
So, this is now my brand new baby blog. I still have my LiveJournal, but mostly to keep up with friends who are much more dedicated to the endeavor than am I. I try to post to my LiveJournal biannually to update friends on what has ensued, haha. I'll try and do better with this blog, but I make no promises. Trying to let Amy's new one inspire me, too.
